Tour suggestions:
Off-road mountain biking in the Schlern area
This tour is definitely not for the hobby cyclist. This is the trail for gritting your teeth and pedal, pedal, pedal. For downhill riders the reward is the Knüppelsteig descent, from the Tierser Alpl to Saltria in the Schlern area. The four-hour tour starts at Kompatsch near Kastelruth. Following road no. 7, the tour first leads over a mountain pass and then continues up to the lodge Mahlknechthütte, where bikers may fortify themselves with a snack and a drink of water before starting the very steep climb up to the Tierser Alpl, at 2440 m above sea level.
From Tierser Alpl the trail leads along a very steep track to Saltria. The downhill trail requires good biking techniques and extreme concentration, especially if the trail is wet. It is advisable for bikers to take occasional breaks to enjoy the spectacular view and admire the bizarre Rosszähne mountains. From Saltria (1700 m above sea level) a 6 km track leads back to the starting point.
This tour is classified as a difficult bike track on which bikers surmount 641 metres in altitude difference.
